GT Sport/GT7 Car Index[]
"Featuring adjustable dampers as standard equipment, this GT3 version of the Type 997 made its debut in 2006."
The 911 GT3 is a high performance model that appeared for the first time during the era of the Type 996. The Type 997 GT3 was announced in 2006, and like the 996 it was developed with circuit use in mind. It also uses the same Carrera 4 chassis as before, with various reinforcements and brake upgrades.
The engine is the same 3.6 litre displacement as the 996 GT3, but it received a full tune up aside from its already upgraded GT1 crank case. Thus the power was raised to 409 BHP, 33 BHP more than the previous model. It was also equipped for the first time in the RS and GT3 series with the PASM variable damping shocks.
In the minor model change of 2008, the GT3 model also underwent changes into the late model. The major change involved the engine, which was bored up to 3.8 litres in displacement. The exhaust system was also tuned to raise its power to 428 BHP. Springs and stabilisers were also made stiffer, and it was equipped with a new PASM[1] to control stability and traction.
Brand Central (GT7)[]
If such thing as the archetypal sports car exists, then this is surely it. Refining the concept of the 996-iteration, the 997 features improved engine capabilities among other things. This is a late-model version, released in 2008.[2] The engine displacement has been increased to 3.8L, bumping the power up by 19.7 BHP to 428 BHP.
Used Cars (GT7)[]
This 997 series Porsche 911 GT3 may have over 394.5 BHP of power under the bonnet, but it handles like a dream. In fact, this car packs an extra 19.7 BHP compared to earlier models. The suspension movement is also more refined than previous GT3s, making it noticeably more comfortable to drive. Don't worry, though—this hasn't entailed any sacrifice in its performance! This is a car that can truly be said to have realised the vision of Porsche's engineers.
Café (GT7)[]
Chris[]
This is a definitive Porsche—a sportscar that makes absolutely no compromises. After 2008, the 997 GT3 produced double the downforce it previously did. In addition, the engine and brakes were made even more powerful. Not only that, but it utilises an engine crankcase that has been honed for racing since the air cooled days. No question about it, this one's a real gem.
Tom Matano[]
The 997 restores some of what was lost in the transition from the 993 to the 996, and adds some subtle upgrades. Actually, a few of those upgrades have become Porsche standards! Note, for example, how the turn indicators are integrated into the bumper's air intake scoops. While subtle upgrades may not seem like much, they enhance the design, and give a sense of uniform quality.

Trivia[]
- Prior to Gran Turismo Sport's Update 1.29, this car (a 997.2) was incorrectly listed as a 2008 vehicle.
- Despite the correction, the car's internal name (_911_gt3_08) still reflects the mistake; this is likely because changing the internal name would lead to significant effects to the game's inner workings, as compared to simply changing the display name and year of the car.
