In-game description[]

GT Sport/GT7 Car Index[]

"This top-of-the-line version of the vaunted 911 possessed a more muscular look and a turbocharged engine."

The first time that the word 'Turbo' appeared in the history of Porsche production models was in 1975. This was when they first started commercial sales of the '911 Turbo', which implemented all of the turbocharging technologies they had developed and accumulated through their racing activities.

The front and rear overfenders of the car stuck out like a racing car, and a large rear wing occupied its rear end. The 3L aircooled flat 6 was equipped with a single KKK Turbocharger and produced 256 BHP. This allowed the car to reach a cruising speed of 249 km/h, an incredible level of speed for a production car of its day.

From 1977, the displacement was increased to 3.3 litres, and an air cooled intercooler was added to raise the power to 295 BHP. Until 1985, models with these engines provided the highest specs in the standard lineup.

This version of the Porsche 911 Turbo was produced up to 1989, and is often referred to as the '930 Turbo'. The name comes from the type number within Porsche development being 930, and because the pre-production model displayed at the Paris motor show a year before its release was displayed as the '930 Turbo'.

Used Cars (GT7)[]

This 930 variant of the 911 is the first Porsche production car to include turbocharging technology. Turbocharging was originally a standard feature of Porsche racing vehicles in the 1970s. But it was not long before the company decided to incorporate this into their flagship line. While the engine only produces up to 295.9 BHP, the added boost from the turbo more than makes up for it. The wide rear tyres help to give it the solid grip one expects from an RR vehicle.

This car taught the world the true meaning of 'Turbo'. Indeed, people are still talking about it to this day. Porsche poured all of its turbo know-how into the turbocharger that powers this 930-type 911.[1] Compared to the '78 model, it features an enlarged 3.3L displacement and a power output capable of 295.9 BHP. Because the 911 is a rear-engine car, there's more load on the rear tyres, which allows for superior traction. Add to this a turbocharger, and you've got a machine that can get some serious air! This 930 holds its own among Porsche's many masterpieces, and is well worth having in one's collection.

Freeman Thomas[]

The Type 930 911 Turbo was Porsche's first true super car! It appealed to a new extroverted Porsche customer. Indeed, the 'Turbo' created a mythical image! Somewhere inside those Superman fender flares and that big rear wing was... The humble 'Clark Kent' 911! It was a success story from the time it debuted at the 1973 Frankfurt Motor Show. The 911 truly signalled the '70s for Porsche. But did you know it was scheduled to be replaced? That was before the Type 930 911 Turbo breathed new life into the model. Of course, we know this now in hindsight. The original 930 had a long and strong production run from 1975 to 1989... With an update to the new 964/965 platform in 1990. Also of note was the 'Turbo' script which became iconic unto itself. In fact, this script is still being used by Porsche today on all subsequent 'Turbos'!

Trivia[]

  • For some reason, the car's texture mapping appears to be uneven; this can be demonstrated by using the "Duplicate on Reverse" option on a decal item placed on the center-front area of the car within the Livery Editor.
  • This car is often seen inside the interior of GT Auto in GT7, accompanied with the Toyota 86 GT '15.
