Description[]
- "How much do you know about Porsche's legendary 917 race car? It brought the company its first ever overall victory at Le Mans back in 1970. This "917 Living Legend" was created to rekindle the spirit of that amazing machine. Incredibly, it was developed by just a handful of staffers from Porsche's research department. One of the key features retained from the original 917 is the iconic fan, located above the mid-mounted V-8 engine."

Car Index (GT7)[]
The Porsche 917 Living Legend is a hyper car inspired by the legendary Porsche 917 racer, which brought the manufacturer the first overall victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans back in 1970.
Developed in 2013 by a small team of engineers and designers at Weissach, the 917 Living Legend was simultaneously a tribute and spiritual successor to the legendary Porsche racer. Inspired by the signature proportions of the original, the 917 Living Legend was all about celebrating the car that brought the Le Mans title to Stuttgart.
Under the sheet metal, the 917 Living Legend featured the latest technology of its day, including lightweight materials such as carbon fiber, which was used for the chassis. Powering the car was a turbocharged 8-cylinder engine that pumped out 999.9 HP, while the suspension system, based on the 918 Spyder, provided remarkable handling at all speeds.
With updated aerodynamics, the car could reach 300 km/h on long straights, making the 917 Living Legend a true reincarnation of the legendary Porsche race car.

Trivia[]
- On the PlayStation Store, it is listed as a 2014 model. This is likely attributed to the fact that it was designed around 2013. It is also featured in the "Porsche Unseen" book.
- Upon closer inspection, it is said to use a single-clutch paddle-shift transmission, as evident with the short delay before shifting.
- The livery (in red) is based on the #23 Porsche 917K that won Le Mans in 1970. The right-hand driving position is another reference to that car. It also shares the same ignition sound/start-up roar as a 917K when selected in the garage.
- It is the first "Porsche Unseen" concept car to be featured in the series.
- In GT7's release date trailer, it was the centerpiece of a scene referencing the introduction of Gran Turismo 4, with the camera panning around various Scapes locations.
- Its 3D model was leaked in 2020 via a patent, complete with a full interior. However, the leaked model had different wheels to the model in GT7.[1]
- It shares the rim design with the regular Porsche 918 Spyder '13. However, said car in-game uses the wheels from the Weissach Package.
- The real car resides at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. Unlike the model present in-game, it is only a static clay model with no interior.
- Following the game's release, its fuel economy was improved to match those of grouped race cars in an update.
