Car Index (GT7)[]
The Porsche 962 C is a prototype racing car Porsche that debuted in 1985 in order to compete in the WEC (World Endurance Championships).
Porsche developed the 956 starting in 1982 for the WEC, fought under the FIA Group C category. The 956 showed spectacular performance from its debut year, winning races in the WEC as well as dominating the Le Mans 24 hour race. Thereafter the 956 was improved for the IMSA-GTP of North America which had similar regulations as the WEC, and debuted in 1984 as the 962. Then in the following year of 1985 when the Group C safety regulations were changed to be in line with the IMSA-GTP, Porsche gave birth to the 962 C. It was powered by the flat 6 twin turbo engine that the Porsche 956 had refined in European races.
The Porsche 962 C brought many victories and championship titles home to Porsche, beginning with winning 7 out of 10 races in the WEC during its debut year. In 1986 it won 4 races out of 9 in the WSPC (World Sports Prototype Championship), which took the place of the WEC. In 1987 it dominated Le Mans, and then placed 2nd here in 1988.
Café Conversations (GT7)[]
Jeremy[]
Porsche has contributed greatly to motorsport over the years, as a manufacturer and seller to privateers. Even in the world's fastest racing category, the sports prototype class... it has simultaneously engaged a factory team while selling its machines to privateers. Indeed, Porsche's widespread support of racing culture is an integral part of its legacy. This is evidenced by the history of the 956 and 962, two Group C models from the early '80s. Although the 962's factory team withdrew from competition in 1988... The cars continued racing for teams of privateers. It's said that Porsche manufactured 150 956 and 962s during their racing careers.
Kunihisa Ito[]
Anybody who has played Gran Turismo has gotten behind the wheel of this car at least once. The 956 and succeeding 962... Racked up wins for Porsche on the world stage for decades. Indeed, the 962C is universally recognized as 'the most successful sports-racing prototype' ever produced. Its bright colors, simple bodywork... And vertical-fin supported rear wings are as fresh today as they were the day it first hit the track.

Trivia[]
- The livery is censored as Rothmans is a tobacco brand, and due to anti-tobacco laws, it was changed to "Racing" instead.
- However, a photo of it with actual Rothmans logos can be seen in Porsche's Museum in Brand Central.
- The livery is actually anachronistic, as factory 962s that were raced in 1988 are fitted with a black, red, and yellow Shell/Dunlop livery. This might be an oversight as to why it was assigned as a 1988 model.
- This livery would later be referenced in The World Group C Racing Championship special event in Gran Turismo 7.
- Y. Gentile's 962 C in the World Group C Racing Championship special event uses the Northern Isle Speedway track logo decal, which is not available in the Livery Editor through normal means.
- The same livery also used colored BBS, Brembo and Dunlop logos, which is also not possible by the player as none of the Brand Logos in the Livery Editor can be colored, even if the logo is only one color. The BBS logo in particular has no one-color variant.
