In-game description[]
This description is taken from the NTSC version of Gran Turismo 2:
Ruf cars are based on those of a famous German automaker, but are modified to the extent that Ruf is considered a manufacturer in its own right. Ruf's 1997 model, based on the then-current offering of the other maker, was called the "CTR2."[1] It was an updated revival of the "Yellow Bird." Even though the original body was clearly recognizable in this new CTR, distinctive high-performance Kevlar and aluminum body parts were featured. Other enhancements were added inside the body, such as an integrated roll bar. The CTR2[1] was also available with a wide body based on the turbo body design. The powerplant that Ruf put into this body had the same 3.6-liter displacement as the original, but it was equipped with twin KKK turbochargers that raised the maximum output to an incredible 520 bhp at 5800 rpm, with maximum torque of 506 lb-ft at 4800 rpm. A 6-speed manual gearbox was standard, with the EKS semiautomatic transmission available as an option. Three types of rear-wheel drive systems were offered in addition to all-wheel drive. The original suspension design was used, with upgraded components added to support the car's high-performance features. Both cast steel and carbon brakes could be specified. CTR2[1] Sport[2] and CTR2[1] Racing models were also produced for circuit racing. These models feature an extra-wide body. The powerplant was similar to the one used in the regular CTR2,[1] but it had what racers call a "Spec 2" engine, which boosted the maximum output beyond 540 bhp. With such a wide array of specifications available, CTR2[1] buyers could select just what they wanted. What they got was one of the fastest sports cars of the time.
