We have collected as much information as possible about how the feature in question functioned when the online services were still operational; as such, this page is retained for historical purposes.

Remote Racing was a Gran Turismo 5 feature that allowed players to use their B-Spec drivers against each other.

Usage[]

To begin, players must first share the B-Spec drivers intended to be used in this mode; these drivers would be considered as "online". This is done from choosing "Share with Friends" option on the driver detail screen on the B-Spec My Drivers list. The player must also have players playing the game on their PlayStation Network friend list that has shared B-Spec drivers. Note that a B-Spec driver can only participate in one remote race at a time, and cannot be used for career races when being shared.

Once in Remote Races menu, the player hosting the race can start a race, either through the game directly or through Gran Turismo website on another device, if using the server standby mode. Each race contains a main car that determine the theme of the cars used during a race, the length of the event, and the course to be used. Once an event is started, the player decides which shared B-Spec drivers from other players will participate on the event. When the race is started, the game assigns cars randomly to each B-Spec driver based on the listed main car (for example, if the main car is Nissan Calsonic IMPUL GT-R '08, the B-Spec drivers will use Super GT GT500 cars). It is not possible to give orders to any B-Spec driver in this mode. The longer the race and the higher the involved driver's levels, the larger the payout in both money and B-Spec experience points.

When the driver is shared, an indicator appears on the driver profile, both in-game and on the website. The three lights indicate how many credits the driver has earned. One light will be lit if the driver has earned less than 50,000 credits (but not zero), two if under 200,000 credits, and three if over 200,000 credits. To actually earn the credits and experience money, the player must first pick up the prizes from the driver profile.

With the closure of GT5's online services on May 30, 2014, this feature is no longer available; any unclaimed B-Spec driver prizes after that date are considered lost. The ability to manage Remote Racing outside the console itself ended on November 29, 2013, as GT5 My Home web service closed on that day.

Trivia[]

  • During races involving NASCAR cars, the 2010 Joey Logano #20 GameStop TOYOTA CAMRY '10 (Fantasy), normally a store-exclusive pre-order car, can be seen as one of cars used by B-Spec competitors.
  • A number of icons for tracks that were not featured in GT5 could once be found on the My Home web service's server. At the time, it was assumed those logos were only present on the web service, until later discovery that the track logos (and some of the tracks themselves) are still present in GT5's game files.
