In-game description

This description is taken from the PAL version of Gran Turismo 2:

The Renault Laguna lunged into life in 1994. Attractively styled, but far from outrageous it was a worthy successor to the 21. As a five-door hatch it was designed for families and business types with less appeal to the driving enthusiast than the car it replaced. Where the 21 offered a turbocharged two-litre motor and even four-wheel drive on the Quadra flagship model, the Laguna range has always been less overtly sporting. At the bottom you'll find a 1.6-litre motor with 110 BHP and if you go up through the ranks there's a 100 BHP 1.9-litre turbo diesel, a 110 BHP 2.2 turbodiesel, a 120 BHP 1.8 petrol, a choice of two two-litres with 115 BHP or 140 BHP and topping the lot is a three-litre V6 with a hefty 194 BHP. The front-wheel-drive Laguna relies on a five speed manual gearbox or four-speed auto to transmit power and all models get powerful ABS brakes for added safety. Although the emphasis is firmly on comfort, with soft-sprung suspension for a regal ride, the Laguna will still tackle corners capably. Independent MacPherson strut front suspension is matched by a trailing arm and torsion bar system at the rear. Performance models run on 16-inch alloy wheels, but the tamer versions rely on wheels an inch smaller. Driving a Laguna will never be classed as an extreme sport, with even the most potent V6 struggling to reach 60 mph from rest in less than nine seconds. Its 143 mph top speed is far more impressive. The lighter 140 BHP two-litre version is a bit more nimble and only loses out to the V6 by a second to 60 mph and by 10 mph on top speed. It's this version that the championship-winning TOCA Touring Car is based (loosely) upon.

Trivia

  • The racing modification's front bumper textures were accidentally overwritten with the bumper of the original car. This only occurs in the high-detail part of the texture used for the player car - the low and medium parts used for opponents and distant replay cameras are intact.
