Rome Short is a street circuit that only appears in Gran Turismo 2. Based on the roads of Rome, Italy, it is a shortened version of Rome Circuit, which features the famous Roman Coliseum.

Circuit Layout[]

Sector 1[]

The Rome Short Circuit begins with the same stretch along the Viale delle Terme di Caracalla as the Full Circuit, curving gently to the right towards the Coliseum. However, instead of tapering off to the left at the Largo Corrado Ricci, the course veers to the right in a blind, sharp 75° turn onto the Via Claudia and Via della Navacella. There is a danger here of understeering into the metal barrier due to the invisible nature of the corner and the elevation change at the top of the hill, reducing optimum speed down the straightaway. The sector ends about 50 metres down the straight

Sector 2[]

Starts from the remainder of the back straight, heading towards the last two corners on the track. Careful sticking too far to the right, as the road narrows as you pass the fountain before the gentle left corner. Since high speeds can be reached here, the blind 90° turn at the Piazza di Porta Metronia can be daunting since the braking point is hard to gauge, though the distance markers on the right side can assist with this. The sweeping right-hander has the fortunate benefit of having a wide run-off area in case of late braking, once through this corner, the tighter right-angled left-hander here can be tackled without difficulty, though remain mindful of understeer, as hitting the barrier can reduce exit speed onto the main straight severely. About 200 metres down the road sits the finish line.

Trivia[]

  • In Gran Turismo 2, the water area surrounding the fountain at the end of the back straight clips through the intended barrier, and it can be driven over just like a road surface. This is due to an oversight of placement of the water texture tile, as it is the same rectangular squares used on tracks like Tahiti Maze, and is not angular enough to fit into the space on the track.
