Scion was an American marque of Toyota, first appearing in the American version of Gran Turismo 4. The marque existed between 2003 and 2016.
Background[]
Scion was a marque produced by Toyota for North America. Founded in 2003, Scion's long-term goal was to appeal to Generation Y consumers. The first Scion models, being the xA and the xB, went on sale in California in 2003, followed by the tC, and a nationwide U.S. launch in 2004. The successor to the xA, the xD, was launched in 2008, and the Scion marque expanded to Canada in 2010. The Scion lineup used a one-trim, simplified purchase process, and the marque relied upon guerrilla and viral marketing techniques. The Scion name, meaning the descendant of a family or heir, refers both to the marque's cars and their owners.
The Scion brand was discontinued by August 2016. The remaining cars that were sold by the marque were rebadged as Toyota models.
