The Shelby GT350R '65 is a road car produced by Shelby. It appears in Gran Turismo 4, Gran Turismo PSP, Gran Turismo 5, and Gran Turismo 6, before being overshadowed by the base model in later games.

Colors[]

Only one color is available for this car, which is unnamed in-game:

  • Wimbledon White / Racing Stripes

In-game description[]

"A commercial Mustang racer, born from a collaboration between Ford and Shelby."

Ford and Shelby American have formed one of the most successful partnerships in American racing in the Sixties. Among the race cars they created was the GT350R, which went to battle in the 1965 SCAA B-production race.

Ford and Shelby decided to produce a production version of this race machine, but one that could easily be turned into a bonafide race car. This car was known as the Mustang GT350.

The base GT350 "S" used the Mustang Fastback GT as a foundation, then added a high-output engine and racing-spec suspension. The "R" took things a few steps further by increasing the power of Ford's small-block 289 cubic-inch pushrod V8 and included anti-roll[1] bars and a large fuel tank (Ford's big-block V8 wouldn't fit into the car's engine bay).

In short, the vehicle was race ready and positioned to take on the Chevrolet Corvette in the USSRC (United States Road Race of Champions). The suspension settings between the "S" and the "R", but what set the "R" visually apart from the "S" was its FRP[2] bumper and large grille.

There were only 35 Shelby GT350Rs produced, two of which were the prototypes used in the works cars for Shelby American. The 1965 Shelby GT350R was the SCAA B-production champion in 1965, 1966 and 1967.

Trivia[]

  • Although it does not appear by itself in GT2 or GT7, installing a racing modification (GT2) or the Type B front bumper and Type A rear bumper with widebody installed from GT Auto (GT7) will make the regular GT350 appearing in those games to resemble the GT350R.

Notes[]

  1. Miswritten as "anti-rolls" in the game.
  2. Fibre-Reinforced Plastic
