In-game description

This description is taken from the PAL version of Gran Turismo 2:

Packing a grunty V8 engine in a lightweight body, the Shelby Series 1 reads like a traditional muscle car. Yet the latest creation of racing ace Carroll Shelby - originator of the legendary AC Cobra - adds a very modern twist to the theme; use of a featherweight carbon fibre shell and an aluminium honeycomb chassis guarantee that performance is on the wild side of extreme. The power behind the two-seater Series 1 is a four-litre Oldsmobile V8. Extensive tweaking from standard spec with the addition of new camshafts, engine management chip and free-flow intake manifold and exhaust boost power to a bicep-inflating 320 BHP. The engine is mounted close to the front of the cockpit, allowing a perfect 50:50 weight balance front to rear. Drive is fed to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. Monstrous acceleration is what's on offer. 0-60 mph is rattled off in a brain-mashing 4.4 seconds. Shelby says that 100 mph flicks past in a mere 11 seconds and after that it's a case of, how quick do you want to go? There's barely any need to slow down once the road gets really gnarly, either. Suspension is race developed, using lightweight aluminium wishbones front and rear with Formula One-style pushrod-operated rocker arms acting on inboard-mounted coils. The communicative steering offers all the instant pointiness of a kart, taking just 1.6 turns to swing from lock to lock. What's more the Series 1 is also one of the grippiest cars in production, rolling on gigantic 315/40 micro-profile tyres on 18-inch split-rim alloy wheels. And when things become just a little too exciting, a set of huge Corvette-derived disc brakes with twin-piston calipers instantly haul the whole thing to a stop. Like the Cobra before it, the Shelby Series 1 has been welcomed as a dead-cert collector's classic. That status is further guaranteed by the fact that only 500 are ever going to be built.
