Special Stage Route X is an oval test track featured in Gran Turismo 5 (as DLC), Gran Turismo 6, Gran Turismo Sport, part of Update 1.32, and Gran Turismo 7.

The 30 km oval, designed for testing top speeds and acceleration, being located on the American West Coast, is similar in nature to the Test Course from previous Gran Turismo games. However, while Test Course runs counterclockwise, this course runs clockwise. The track is comparable to a longer version of the Daytona Tri-Oval, hosting the Daytona 500.

The course itself consists of two 11 km straights and two 4 km banked turns, with the banking varying upwards to almost 60 degrees. At the end of the front straight, there is a 3 km hill, mostly used to test uphill acceleration and downhill top speed. There are two 2 km tunnels, one at the beginning of the front straight housing the massive pit area and lap line, and one in the middle of the back straight at about the 6 km mark.

There is also an unused part of the track which is most prominently seen just before the hill, where the left hand side of the track (no access) breaks off into a high-speed 270 degree spiral turn, and then heads to the geographical center of the complex. The course apparently reunites at the back straight 5 km mark and separates again at the beginning of the front straight just before the front tunnel and pit area.

Special Stage Route X Infield

The unused infield layout to SSRX found in the files for GT5 and 6.

  • This track is available in arcade mode as well as multiplayer lobbies, but it is not included in the Circuit Experience in Gran Turismo Sport and Gran Turismo 7. The reason is likely that it has long straights and only 2 banked corners.
    • In GT7, from version 1.40, this means the maximum Quick Race credit bonus is permanently locked to 200%.
  • In GT Sport, despite being an oval track, mileage scored on this track will not count towards the King of the Ovals trophy.
  • In GT Sport, logos for Blu Strada, one of the in-game fictional sponsors in the Livery Editor, can be found in the cranes within the track. This suggests that Blu Strada is a shipping or a port management company. Blue Moon Bay's logo also appears on the sides of airplanes appearing trackside during the drag racing missions.
  • Special Stage Route X is the only fictional track from previous Gran Turismo games to be added to GT Sport.
  • There exists an unused infield layout in the files of GT5 and GT6, confirming the theory that there was an infield layout planned, but was cut.[1]
    • It is implied that the tube-like track that appeared in the trailer for the Acura NSX CONCEPT '13 is taken from the scrapped infield section.
  • According to the pre-race weather radar introduced in Update 1.38 of Gran Turismo 7, the track is located within San Clemente, between Los Angeles and San Diego.
  • The trailer for the Nissan Hyper Force, revealed at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show, featured a version of the track with grassy scenery compared to the in-game dry lands.
