Strategy[]

This is one of the most difficult events in Gran Turismo 4, as the opponent Speedsters have much more power than they're supposed to. Even if your Speedster is fully tuned, you will still be at a power disadvantage. To win this event, you need to save as much time as possible in corners, so you can maintain the lead on long straights. With this in mind, here's some tips:

  • Use the naturally aspirated Speedster instead of the turbocharged model. While the NA Speedster has less power after upgrades, it's much lighter and its power band is less narrow, allowing for better acceleration at low-RPM's when exiting corners.
  • If driving in manual, gear up at around 7500 RPM. The NA Speedster has a very early redline, and gearing up late will improve acceleration as the car has high torque at high-RPM's.
  • Buy a rear wing from GT Auto, and set downforce to 30 / 30 in the car settings. With this, the Speedster's cornering grip and braking distances will improve significantly.
  • Buy racing tyres. Hard racing tyres are inexpensive, durable and will drastically improve the Speedster's grip.
  • Put a 35 - 50kg ballast at the front of the car (-50 balance). By moving the car's weight balance towards the front, the car will be much more stable while cornering, at little cost to acceleration.
    • A similar effect can be achieved by buying a suspension upgrade, lowering the front height and raising the rear height. This moves the car's center of gravity forward, improving cornering stability. Stiffening the front dampers to 5 - 8, softening the rear dampers to 2, and setting the front camber to around 2.5 will also help with stability as you brake and turn into corners.
  • Buy NOS, set its power to 70 in the car settings, and use it while exiting corners and on long straights. This is one of the most cost-efficient ways of improving the car's acceleration.
  • In the Driving Aids section in the car settings, reduce ASM Understeer and Oversteer to 0. This will improve the car's speed around corners, and the Speedster won't need ASM thanks to the grip offered from racing tyres and downforce. TCS can also be reduced to 1 or 0 with little consequence, as the Speedster has good rear wheel traction thanks to its MR layout.
  • Keep the Speedster's power at a comfortable level of around 250 - 275hp. If the car is too powerful, it will become more difficult to control in corners, potentially losing time on technical tracks like Autumn Ring. The event is very winnable with under 300hp, as long as you can keep the car under control and use NOS to make up for the power deficit on straights.
    • Consider going for NA tuning over turbo upgrades, as while the peak power increase is lower, it offers better mid-RPM torque and allows for faster corner exits while the car is in a high gear. All other power upgrades will not affect the car's torque curve, making them ideal in this scenario.
