Subaru is a Japanese automobile company and a subsidiary of the Subaru Corporation (formerly Fuji Heavy Industries) featured in the mainline Gran Turismo games.
They are well-known for its range of boxer-engine vehicles featuring the company's proprietary Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, offered as a standard feature on most Subaru vehicles (from kei cars like the Vivio to SUVs like the Forester), with only a few notable exceptions (e.g., 360, BRZ).

In Gran Turismo 2's licensing credits, there is mention of Subaru granting Polyphony Digital the rights to include the Subaru Rex kei car. While this never materialised, the vehicle banner remains in the game files.
The theme music for the Subaru dealership in the NTSC-J version of GT1 is "Mr. 4WD", which would be subsequently remixed as one of the menu themes in GT4.
Ahead of the release of Gran Turismo 4, Subaru produced a motion racing simulator, powered by three PlayStation 2 units (to support multi-monitor) along with a contemporary Logitech wheel, and primarily for use in auto shows and select Subaru dealers in Japan. Two versions of the software used for the simulator are known to exist, one based on GT Concept (in what would be one of the last builds of the game during the transition from GT Concept to GT4P) and the other based on GT4P.
In the FIA Gran Turismo Championship/Gran Turismo World Series competition, Subaru is the second repeat winner of the Manufacturers Series/Cup, when it did so in 2020 and 2022.
Subaru's 2022 title also marks the first championship to be won across different games and cars used (GT Sport and with WRX Gr.3 in 2020, GT7 and with BRZ GT300 in 2022).
