The Subaru IMPREZA Rally Car is a rally car produced by Subaru. It only appears in the original Gran Turismo, under the name Subaru Impreza Rally Edition, and in Gran Turismo 2, being overshadowed by the Subaru IMPREZA Rally Car '99.
Although it bears some similarities with the various Subaru Imprezas used in the WRC, it seems that this car most closely resembles the #3 driven by Colin McRae, who achieved a 2nd place finish in the 1997 WRC Driver's Championship, losing to Tommi Makinen by one point.
Colors[]
There are two colors available. They are unnamed in both games:
- Black
- Blue
In-game description[]
The following description is a translation of the car's description from GT2's NTSC-J version:
The Subaru Impreza WR car has been sent to the WRC in accordance with the WR car regulations that came into effect in 1997.
At a quick glance, it seems that there are no major changes from the previous cars, but the blister fenders have been extended to the full extent of the regulations. Up close, the fenders look more powerful than ever.
In fact, the dimensions of the car are 4340 mm in length, 1770 mm in width, and 1390 mm in height, which indicates that the width of the car has been considerably increased.
The body was designed by Peter Stevens, who also designed the Jaguar XJR15. The shape of the front intake has been drastically changed, and the rear wing has been optimally shaped after wind tunnel testing. The rear window is removable for ease of servicing the rear suspension convention. The mirrors are also made of bullet-shaped carbon fiber, which perfectly matches the body of the car.
The power unit installed is the same as before, an EJ20 flat-four-cylinder DOHC turbo engine. The maximum output is the specified 300 ps/5500 rpm, and the maximum torque is 48.0 kgm/4000 rpm. The drivetrain that receives this power is a full-time 4WD with an electronically controlled, hydraulically actuated LSD, and the transmission is a 6-speed semi-automatic gearbox with a sport shift.
The chassis uses MacPherson struts in both front and rear suspension.
For gravel, the brakes use 4-pot caliper ventilated discs, but for tarmac, water-cooled 6-pod caliper discs are used.
Weighing in at 1,230 kg, this machine is truly world-class in terms of performance. Prodrive, a well-known manufacturer, is in charge of the production of this machine.
Acquisition[]
GT1[]
It can be purchased in the special section of the Subaru dealership for 500,000 Credits.
GT2[]
It can be won by winning the Grand Valley 300Km. It has a 50% probability to come as a prize car.
Trivia[]
- In the original Gran Turismo, it had 575 BHP. It is unknown why there is a difference in power between its two appearances, presumably for balancing reasons.
- It is the very first standalone rally car to appear in the series.
- In Gran Turismo 2, it is often confused with the Arcade-only Subaru IMPREZA Rally Car '96, due to having an almost identical in-game name.
