In-game description[]
This description is taken from the NTSC version of Gran Turismo 2:
In January 1994, Subaru's motorsports division, STi, created its own version of WRX, the Impreza sports grade that enjoyed immense popularity from day one. This series, dubbed the WRX-STi, has evolved continuously through substantial, repeated upgrades and improvements. Released in September 1998, the Version V STi received important engine enhancements, inverted dampers, and other upgrades. Like the preceding Version IV (released in September 1997), the Version V was made available in three body types: a 4-door sedan, station wagon, and 2-door coupe. The engine is the same in name (EJ20) and has the same specs as that of the Version IV (276 BHP at 6,500 rpm and 261 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm). However, a complete redesign of the intake and exhaust system has made the engine quieter and also dramatically improved its feel and power delivery. All models are offered only with a 5-speed manual transmission. Version V also notably uses 8 bolts (up from 4) to join the engine to the transmission, for improved coupling rigidity. Suspension enhancements include inverted struts, which are said to provide three times as much lateral rigidity as normal, non-inverted struts. On the outside, a larger, more-refined rear spoiler, a different front grille and bumper, and other changes make for a more muscular WRC-car look.
