In-Game Description[]
"The second-generation Impreza was developed alongside the rally spec model."
One year after the potent Spec C was introduced, Subaru wasted no time finessing the new Impreza, taking a scalpel to the car's front end after only two years on the market. The round headlights were a bust as it alienated many loyal buyers, so the company replaced them with more conventional-looking tear-drop shaped ones.
The car's overall aerodynamics were also improved, thanks to development work performed by SWRT (Subaru World Rally Team). The team also improved the torque of the boxer powerplant, raising its peak to 40.2 kgm (290.7 ft-lb). The new exhaust system, which was originally developed for the 2003 Legacy, was more efficient, too. Of particular note was a new center differential that featured an automatic mode. This system managed the distribution of torque between the front and rear wheels through the center differential automatically, allowing it maximum traction through all variety of corners.
The car's new handling prowess demanded more grip, so wider tires were used in 2004. This year also saw the torque figure of the flat-4 climb yet again, to 42.0 kgm (303.7 ft-lb). By this time the Impreza WRX had caught the attention of performance enthusiasts everywhere, and in 2003 the car finally made its way to U.S. shores. Soon thereafter Mitsubishi brought the Lancer Evolution to the U.S., and the two Japanese rally icons clashed on a new battleground.
Brand Central (GT7)[]
This is the 2nd-gen model of the Subaru Impreza WRX series. Like its predecessor, it was a World Rally Championship star. Specifically, it was the last Impreza to win a world title at the WRC—a legacy that's talked about to this day. The production model received extensive upgrades, including a major facelift. The 2004 model was faster and stronger by leaps and bounds. Engine-wise, not only was max. torque given[1] a 2 kgfm upgrade, but the mid-range response was significantly improved. Paired with a rigid and ground-hugging chassis, this car is incredibly fun to drive on any course.[2]
Used Cars (GT7)[]
The Subaru Impreza is a Japanese legend that made its name at the World Rally Championship, the peak of rally racing. Armed with a compact body, mighty turbo engine, and 4WD system, it never fails to display its speed! The road-going Impreza WRX STi is admired by sportscar drivers all over the world. This model here is the 2nd-gen WRX STi, a 2-litre class car with one of the most powerful engines[3] of its day. This 2004 model saw its engine receive further upgrades, along with a new suspension and wider tyres. It was the first Impreza to run the Nürburgring's old track in under eight minutes!
Café (GT7)[]
Stella[]
This is a 2nd-gen Subaru Impreza STi. In Japan, the Impreza STi and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo famously had a fateful rivalry. The 2nd-gen STi underwent numerous upgrades, no more evident than in this 2004 model. Notice how the rear wheel arch appears to be slightly widened? This was done to give the car wide tyres and wheels. The suspension and engine were also improved. This car certainly turned heads after its time trial run at the Nürburgring in Germany. After all, it was the first Impreza to run the track in under eight minutes!
Kagurazaka[]
Today, the WRX STi has grown into something that... Has its own independent brand value, one that represents Subaru's technological prowess and dynamism. But because the second-generation WRX STi is but another variation of the Impreza... The allure of its design, as the car itself reflects the expression... "An everyday passenger sedan transforms into an extraordinary fighting machine." However, with the new WRX, the base car is quite aggressive to begin with, and the before-and-after transformation isn't as profound. If you're looking for a catharsis in the spirit of Peter Parker becoming Spider-Man...[4] Then this second-generation model with its exceptionally clean, well-behaved cabin and no triangular windows might be just right.
