In-game description[]
This description is taken from the NTSC version of Gran Turismo 2:
The third generation Legacy models came out in June 1998, and had achieved a level of perfection made possible by the refinements accumulated over the line's 10-year history. Stressing this point was the fact that only the station wagons went through a full model change. The GT-B was the top-of-the-line touring station wagon. It naturally received the EJ20 Phase 2, a Boxer series engine (with 4 horizontally opposed cylinders) perfected with Subaru's years of experience. This engine was equipped with a newly designed cylinder block and intake system, and a two-stage twin turbo. Maximum output was unchanged at 276 BHP at 6,500 rpm. Maximum torque was boosted to 254 lb-ft at 5,000 rpm. Interestingly, a model's all-wheel-drive system varied according to whether it was equipped with a manual or automatic transmission. Previously, the transmission options were 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic, but for 1999, Subaru introduced the GT-B E-tune, the first station wagon to offer the sports shift lever introduced in the B4 RSK. The lineup now had the GT-B as its only automatic transmission model, while the GT-B E-tune was offered with 5-speed manual transmission and 4-speed automatic transmission with sport shift. For this model, the rear suspension was overhauled. Struts were replaced with a multilink mechanism that fit almost entirely below floor level, thus not only improving riding comfort but also permitting a flat cargo area. The GT-B E-tune had a specially tuned suspension based on the B4 RSK's, a special colored front grille, and an aluminum front hood to lighten the car and improve driving performance.
