The 2005 Suzuki GSX-R 1000 is the product of a complete overhaul of the 2003 model that lightened the bike and further concentrated mass. These upgrades not only boost power to 178 hp at 11,000 r.p.m., but improve the bike's performance in the fundamental actions of cornering, stopping, and all-out acceleration. Despite its massive power, the GSX-R is easy to handle, with power that's linear, not peaky.
The bike had the power and the performance to be crowned overall champion in the 2005 Superbike World Championship, thus validating Suzuki's strategy for superbike performance.
This GSX-R 1000 is a racing-spec machine with plenty of unique modifications. The engine control unit is reprogrammed for the performance boost delivered by the high-performance muffler. There are also custom camshafts and hand-polished ports and cylinders, and a close-ratio transmission to put the engine's considerable power to the road. The end result is 187 hp at 11,000 r.p.m.
The high-performance suspension kits and brake calipers in the front and rear make for a direct touch and powerful braking force—just what a rider needs for racing.
