From the time it was first released in 1981 until its final edition in 2000, the GSX 1100S Katana gained a huge number of devoted fans. In addition to a high-performance engine, the Katana had striking Oriental styling created by German designer Hans Muth, and in its day was one of the most well known Japanese motorcycles in the world.
The Katana has many classic details that, compared to today's supersport bikes, may seem ill-suited to sport riding, such as an air-cooled 4-cylinder engine and 19-inch front rim. But because it was such a big part of the Katana's overall image, this style was maintained throughout the production run,
The upgraded inner parts in the fork have the right damping properties for sport riding, and the stock rear shocks were replaced with high-performance fully adjustable units.
With high-performance cams, the engine delivers more power at high r.p.m., and the valve springs were replaced to handle the faster revs. These and other upgrades, such as a racing-spec exhaust and a high-performance flat-slide carburettor with superior fuel atomisation, boost power to 108 hp at 8,500 r.p.m.
