The GSX 1400 came out in 2001 with already-impressive specs, including a 1,401cc oil-cooled engine with 4 cylinders, 4 valves per cylinder, and dual overhead cams, as well as the first six-speed transmission in its class and an electronic fuel injection system with 34mm throttle bodies—a first for a naked bike this big. With plenty of power thanks to the massive displacement, yet quick steering response that's amazing considering its weight and size, the GSX 1400 has won over a wide range of riders, from novice to veteran.
This racing-spec 1400 is tuned for even more power and stronger acceleration at high r.p.m., but without sacrificing the massive low- to midrange torque possible with the engine's large displacement.
Although displacement is unchanged, upgrades include special high-speed cams, a high-efficiency 4-in-1 exhaust system, and an engine management subsystem that links to the main control unit (where the fuel injection program resides) and allows the flow of flow to be adjusted within the normal mapping. The result: 112 hp at 6,500 r.p.m.
The already sportier-than-expected suspension of the production model has been further improved with modified inner fork tubing with diamond coating, for improved wear resistance, and a fully adjustable rear suspension. These modifications are designed for circuit racing.
