Description[]

The Skywave 250 was developed in parallel with the Skywave 400, a model built for the European market. Consequently, despite being a scooter with a unit swing arm, it is characterised by exceptional stiffness and a low centre of gravity. The first 250 was fitted with a single-cylinder engine with overhead cams, 4 valves, and a single-shaft balancer and generated the best power in its class. The 250 was also the only scooter in its class to have multi-link rear suspension, which combined with the 13-inch wheels in the front and rear made for an unparalleled ride. Seat height was kept low relative to the long wheelbase, for easy standing at red lights.

The Skywave underwent a complete redesign for 2002. Although the basics remained the same—long wheelbase, big rims, combined braking system, and low seat—the 250 nevertheless gained an even classier look, partly because it was still being developed in parallel with the 400cc European model. Conveniences also got better, such as a larger cargo space under the seat.

There was also another first: the first fuel-injection system in its class. This added to the bike's already-impressive achievements in power, fuel efficiency, and low exhaust emissions. The biggest attraction of the 250 was its legendary ride and handling. In contrast to the average scooter, whose rider feels every bump on the road because of the small wheels, the Skywave could offer a smooth ride thanks to the rear multi-link suspension. This, combined with the long wheelbase, gave the 250 superbly steady handling without sacrificing manoeuvrability. With minimal change in attitude when accelerating, the 250 beats them all when it comes to stability during two-up riding. The narrow floor makes for easy standing at a red light.

Compared to the first Skywave, the current model also offers improved protection from the wind. The overall design reduces turbulence while letting you feel the wind in your face. Available in a wide range of variations, including the short-screen S and the SS, the Skywave continues to enjoy popularity with a broad range of riders.
