The following is the list of tests that must be completed in order to obtain the Junior License in Tourist Trophy:

J-1[]

Braking Basics

This test is conducted on the first corner of Tsukuba Circuit. Tighter at the exit than at the entry, this is more of a complex corner than a single corner. Go for a late apex - if you drift to the inside of the track too soon, then you will end up going wide at the exit. Be careful not to close the throttle or brake to try to modify your racing line however, as that will add to your time, or worse yet, veer you off course. To avoid such situations, shorten the distance coming out of the corner by braking as far into the corner as possible. The machine you will be on here is an Aprilia RSV1000R Factory.

J-2[]

Braking Basics

Held on the mountainous section of El Capitan, this test will give you the opportunity to hone your braking and cornering skills on downhill terrain. Take extra care at the left corner immediately following the staring point, as it is easy to veer off course here. The hairpin curve up ahead is also tricky - finding the right braking point won't be easy, so practice until you find what works best. The two left corners that follow the hairpin have different radii; focus on the acceleration line as you exit the hairpin and find the right racing line to clear these two corners smoothly. In doing so, you should be able to improve your speed control. The machine used for this test is a Suzuki GSX1100S Katana Final Edition.

J-3[]

Avoidance (3 Levels)

For this test, three signs are placed on a straight course. As you approach each sign, an arrow will point to either side. The objective of this test is to veer to the side to which the arrow points. If you should miss and veer to the wrong side, you may end up riding onto the tire barrier in front of the sign, or hit the wall and fall over, resulting in disqualification. You will also be disqualified if you overrun the checkered goal area. The trick to doing well on this course is to decelerate and accelerate quickly. Steering smoothly and rhythmically as you pass each sign while adjusting the throttle correctly is also key. The machine used for this test is a Honda VFR.

J-4[]

Slalom

The Slalom Test that was conducted in Novice Class is repeated here, but on a Honda CB1300 Super Bol D'Or instead of the Yamaha TMAX. By going from a scooter to a motorcycle, not only will there be a change in riding performance, but the higher displacement will lead to higher speeds, making it important to handle the throttle with even more care than before. Furthermore, the higher speeds will make it more difficult to adjust your speed with the rear brakes. Because of that, the risk of swerving off course or into a cone becomes greater. To avoid such errors, make sure you do a thorough job of finding the best racing line.

J-5[]

Slalom

The Slalom Test that was conducted using the Honda CB1300 Super Bol D'Or is repeated here, but riding two-up.[1] The basic racing line remains the same, and the same speed control techniques apply as when riding solo, but the addition of a passenger leads to an increase in overall weight, and shifting of the weight balance. As a result, the machine will not maneuver as easily or accelerate as quickly when you go to clear the cones. To compensate, you will have to turn wider and steer and throttle sooner.

J-6[]

Uphill Corner

  • Bike: Yamaha TZ250 '03
  • Track: Autumn Ring: Turns 6-9
  • Launch Speed: 80 km/h
  • Gold Time: 0:20.000
  • Silver Time: 0:21.500
  • Bronze Time: 0:24.000

This challenge involves tackling a sharp uphill section at Autumn Ring. Approach the corner while maintaining smooth throttle control, focusing on maintaining speed while keeping your line tight to avoid losing momentum. As you climb, make sure to brake early enough to keep your machine steady without losing control.

Braking from High-speed to Corner Entry

In this test, you will ride the home stretch of Grand Valley Speedway to its hairpin-like first corner on a Suzuki GSX 1300R. As you ride full throttle through the home stretch, you'll approach an easy left-hand curve at speeds of over 250 km/h, just before the first corner. You'll need to lean to the left and brake full force, making it important to stabilize your machine and find the right braking point. From here on, as long as you can clip the apex as late as possible, it'll be full throttle all the way – just be careful not to ride off course.

J-8[]

Avoidance 2 (5 Levels)

This is a repeat of the signal test you took when you were in the Junior Class – the differences being that your bike will now be a Triumph Speed Triple, and that the number of signals is increased from three to five. Deceleration and acceleration should be precise, and throttle control and turning smooth and rhythmic. The added signals will result in faster speeds as you approach each signal, making it difficult to recover from mistakes. Try to maintain both good handling precision and good speed control.

J-9[]

S-Bends 2

Ride from the high-speed S-curve to the second hairpin corner at Grand Valley Speedway on a MV Agusta F4-1000S. To maintain speed along the S-curve, try to control your speed by staying away from the brakes and relying only on the throttle. While leaned over, hold back the urge to open the throttle until your machine has changed directions. Otherwise, the machine will swing wide, not only making the approach to the next corner difficult but also increasing the chance of veering off course. Also, remember that riding onto the inner curve while fully banked will change your racing line, making you swing wide to the outer rim. As for the approach to the hairpin, make sure you clip the apex as far into the corner as possible, and choose a racing line that allows you to accelerate out of the corner.

J-10[]

High Speed S-Bends to Braking

Experience the section between the high-speed S-curve and the approach to the hairpin corner at Midfield Raceway. Because you'll be weaving left and right through the S-curve and braking towards the hairpin while the bike is still leaned over, sudden deceleration may cause slippage and lead to a fall. Spend plenty of time practicing your speed control into the hairpin and holding the racing line. Once you've cleared the hairpin, an uphill high-speed S-curve awaits. At the first left corner of the S-curve, clip the apex as far into the corner as possible. The right corner that follows is not as tight, so try to hold a racing line that will let you rip through at top speed. Your ride here is a Suzuki GSX-R 1000.

  1. "Two-up" is the motorcycle rider's term for riding with a passenger.
