Tahiti Road is a track set in Tahiti that appears in Gran Turismo 2, loosely based on the areas found on the islands of French Polynesia.
Overview[]
Tahiti Road serves as a beginner-difficulty course in Gran Turismo 2, with the feel of a tarmac rally stage. Since it is the first race of the Sunday Cup in Simulation Mode and the first track available in Arcade Mode, it is very likely that this is the first circuit encountered by many players. Featuring seaside views, palm trees, and sunny skies; along with elevation changes, sweeping turns, and a relatively wide road surface, it is considered to be one of the easiest courses in the game.
Layout & Sectors[]
Sector 1[]
Coming from the left hand side, reduce your speed on approach to Turn 1. Turn in and stay to the inside in preparation for the uphill Turn 2 and 3 chicane. The exit of turn 3 crests a hill, and is an easy spot to understeer at. Reduce your speed slightly between Turns 2 and 3 as you ascend to avoid understeering on corner exit; aim to apply full acceleration as early as possible. Be careful of the car's behavior here, as it may compromise your approach to Turn 4.
Sector 2[]
Turn 4 is preceded by a short downhill straight. Start braking where the arrow signs on the left start and aim to take a line through both Turns 4 and 5 that is as straight as possible. As you exit Turn 5, move to the left side of the track and apply the brakes at the arrow signs on your left. Turn 6 starts to rise halfway through and widens on exit, so take a racing line that aims to increase exit speed as much as possible.
Sector 3 & 4[]
Turn 7 is a long sweeping left-hand bend that undulates. Take it as a straight and stay to the inside while going flat out. Turn 8 will approach quickly. Begin braking just after where the dirt patch on the left ends and take a traditional out-in-out line. Be wary of understeer at this corner, as the corner exit narrows slightly. Turns 9 and 10 are another uphill chicane similar to Turns 2 and 3, and should be treated as such. Understeer is more prominent at Turn 10, and the sudden cresting can cause the car to behave erratically and even catch air. Be cautious of understeer on entry and oversteer on exit.
Turn 11 is a deceptively tight right-hand bend. It may be tempting to take it flat out due to the run-off, but this will cause you to understeer into the pits. Lift off the throttle and aim for an early corner apex as you enter. Reapply the throttle once you hit the apex and aim for the right side of the pit wall that is Turn 12. Take it flat out and head for the finish.
