In-game description[]

The Porsche 911 series moved into its 4th generation in 1993, becoming the Type 993.

The most prominent change for this new generation model was a much lower nose which flattened the peaks of the front fenders and sloped the headlights back. The rear fenders were also widened among other changes which overall gave the car an entirely new look. The rear suspension was also changed to a multi-link design in the interest of improving handling.

The base power unit is the 3.6L flat 6 from the previous type 964 tuned to 268 BHP, and because the next generation 996 was changed to water cooling, the 993 would be the last air cooled flat 6 model.

The most powerful model of the Type 993 911[1] was the Carrera RS model released in 1995. The engine was upgraded to a 295 BHP 3.8L unit along with improvements to body rigidity, and weight was reduced by removing the back seats.

The line up also included the Carrera RS Club Sport which included track oriented modifications such as a large front spoiler and rear wing, as well as a welded roll cage.

Used Cars (GT7)[]

The 993 series are famous for being the last of the air-cooled 911s. And even amongst RS models, Club Sports are a little special, much coveted by collectors around the world. The carpets and soundproofing have been removed to reduce weight, and a roll cage added to make it more robust. The 3.8L naturally aspirated flat engine is capable of 295.9 BHP, while the 1,200 kg weight keeps the back end down. The suspension is a little on the stiff side, but its handling out on the track is nothing short of exceptional.

Café (GT7)[]

Freeman Thomas[]

Unlike the 993 Carrera RS, the 993 RS Clubsport was bred for racing. It is equipped with a unique rear wing and integrated air inlets. The downforce generated by the rear wing is balanced with a long front spoiler. The wheels are a three-piece design with different offsets in the front and rear. One look at the exterior details will tell you it was the work of Style Porsche... The in-house design studio at Porsche-Weissach. The interior is defined by a spartan palette and a reinforced roll cage. Like other 911-based race cars of this ear, the Clubsport evokes its forebear. Ah, I pity the owner who tries to convince the authorities to allow it on the road! A difficult task, but not impossible!

Trivia[]

  • This car, along with the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro '19, are known to be outsourced rather than modeled in-house by Polyphony themselves, the first being the Honda S660 '15. The outsourcing allowed both cars to be completed in three months, compared to the usual six, although the outsourcer only covered the car's medium LOD polygons.[2]
