Time Trial is one of the five sections within the Go Race area of GT Mode in the original Gran Turismo. The player is able to select a car and a track, and start a two lap time trial. This feature is also available in Arcade Mode, but is limited to the cars available, rather than the acquired vehicles in the Gran Turismo Mode Garage.
The main purpose of Time Trials is for testing out tuning setups and vehicle performance, as well as practicising the track outside of racing events. As such, Time Trials are not required for 100% completion.
For each track, players can set records for both the cumulative two-lap times and the fastest lap time, displayed as "Track Record" and "Fastest Lap", respectively.

All tracks are also available to race in reverse, with the exception of Test Course.
