The Top Gear Test Track (Special Event) is a Special Event in Gran Turismo 5 where you race two laps on the Top Gear Test Track. The Event is split into three difficulty levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. The only difference between the races is what car is used. As with all special events, you can only gain experience and credit from this event once for each of bronze, silver and gold trophies. The Top Gear Test Track Special Event unlocks at the following levels:
- Beginner: Level 4
- Intermediate: Level 8
- Advanced: Level 19
Beginner Level[]
The beginner level of the Top Gear Test Track Special Event is available at level 4 and has the player driving one of 12 Volkswagen SambaBuses around two laps of the Top Gear Test Track. Starting at the back of the field, the player must use slipstreaming and outbraking to gain first place (for a gold trophy) within the two laps.

Advanced Level[]
The Advanced level of the Top Gear Test Track Special Event is available at Level 19 and features the player driving one of 8 Volkswagen Kübelwagens. Unlike the previous levels, the Advanced level also utilises the crossover part of the track, in that five Volkswagen Schwimmwagens circulate the track about a half a lap behind. This means that twice per lap, as the cars pass through the crossover, traffic becomes an issue and several cars collide. While this can be an obstacle for the player, it can also become advantageous as several AI cars are eliminated through collision, but at the risk of getting a DNF (Did Not Finish) when the player's car is the only remaining car on the field.
