"This is a Gran Turismo original version of the Toyota 86 FR sports car modified for Gr.4."
―In-game catch text for the car, from GT7's car collection

The Toyota 86 Gr.4 is a race car produced by Toyota, based on the Toyota 86 GT '15. It appears in Gran Turismo Sport and Gran Turismo 7, replacing the Toyota GAZOO Racing TOYOTA 86 ♯166 '12 appearing in Gran Turismo 6.

Liveries[]

Two liveries are available for this car:

  • TRD/Toyota Gazoo Racing (unnamed in-game)
  • TGR GT CUP 2023 (GT7 1.34 onwards)

Description[]

"The base model for this Gran Turismo-exclusive Gr.4 race car was none other than the Toyota 86. With 314.2 HP on tap and remarkable handling, this machine had the power and grace of a GT3 racer."
―In-game description of the car, from GT7's Brand Central

The car shares the same description as the base Toyota 86 GT '15, stating at the bottom that it is specially tuned for Gr.4 regulations by Gran Turismo.

Trivia[]

  • The bodywork, wheels, and interior of this car appears to be based on the Toyota GAZOO Racing TOYOTA 86 ♯166 '12, although the livery used is different.
    • The TGR GT Cup 2023 livery is based on the livery used by the Toyota GR010 HYBRID '21, and was previewed in Toyota Gazoo Racing's website before it was added to the game.
  • The Toyota 86 does have a GT4 version in real life, built by GPRM, a British engineering firm. Despite Toyota's close relation with the car's development, it is not considered a works car. The car finished development and raced in British GT while Gran Turismo Sport was in development. In addition, GPRM's car is turbocharged while the Gr.4 car is naturally aspirated.
    • Steller Engineering later continued development of the car for 2017 British GT season, based on the facelift model of the 86.
  • This car is one of five Gr.4 cars to have an engine swap option available (since version 1.52), the others being the BMW M4 Gr.4 (since version 1.49), the Bugatti Veyron Gr.4 (since version 1.46), the Honda NSX Gr.4 (since version 1.46) and the Nissan SILVIA spec-R AERO (S15) Touring Car (since version 1.26).
  • A separate instance (internally) of the car used in the Olympic Virtual Series grand finals features a different steering wheel without the Gazoo Racing logo in the steering wheel, pursuant to IOC's third-party/commercial branding policy. (It is unknown if other logos, such as the Racelogic logo on a data logger device within the cockpit, were altered, as the race featuring the car was a night race, meaning that it was too dark to judge.) This version is not available outside of the event, similar to the GT Academy versions of certain Nissan cars in PlayStation 3-era games.

Notes[]

  1. As GT Sport's servers has been shut down on January 31, 2024, and as the last Manufacturer Series race in GT Sport was held on December 25, 2021, it is no longer possible to obtain the car this way.
