In-game description[]

This description is taken from the PAL version of Gran Turismo 2:

The Toyota Caldina[1] is what you might call a variation on a theme. Originally based on the Corona/Carina, the Caldina[1] offered buyers a sporty estate body when it was launched in September 1997. It has subsequently developed into a model in its own right and now rivals the like of Subaru's Legacy. The Caldina[1] comes with a choice of engines, ranging from the basic to the sublime. The entry level model is a 1.8-litre four-cylinder unit that puts the emphasis on economy rather than performance, while a two-litre version does the same thing with a touch more refinement. A 2.2-litre turbo diesel is also available, while all four engines come with a choice of either a five-speed manual 'box or a four-speed automatic. As is the norm with most modern estate cars, the Caldina[1] comes with front-wheel-drive as standard, although like the Subaru Legacy, it's also available with four-wheel-drive. And that four-wheel-drive system is put to its best use in the top-of-the-range GT-T model. The GT-T combines a two-litre, in-line four-cylinder, double-overhead cam engine, with the extra oomph of a turbo. The result is a whopping 260bhp, that's even more amazing for a sports wagon. The GT-T comes with a five-speed manual shift as standard, though it can also be had as a four-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted buttons to enable the driver to change manually. The Caldina[1] uses a sophisticated four-wheel-drive system with a centre differential to ensure traction no matter how slippery the going gets, while in automatic versions there's the additional help of an automatic stability control. Despite the relative lack of grip offered up by the skinny 15-inch tyres, the GT-T's four-wheel-drive system ensures it's one of the finest handling estate cars money can buy.
