In-game description[]

This description is taken from the NTSC version of Gran Turismo 2:

It was the model ST165 Celica GT-Four that introduced the concept of the all-wheel drive sports car to Japan. The most powerful Celica engine before its debut was the GT-R's[1] 158 BHP, 2.0-liter DOHC in-line 4-cylinder model 3S-G. When the GT-Four was released in October 1986 with the turbocharged and intercooled 3S-GTE, it boasted what were then the most powerful specs of any Japanese-built four-cylinder engine: 182 BHP and 178 lb-ft of torque. It also had Toyota's first full-time AWD system. Minor mechanical changes made in the AWD system in August 1987 further enhanced the car's potential. Having proven its substantial capabilities in motorsports, the GT-Four became a WRC entrant in 1988. In September, 1989, the fifth-generation Celica debuted. The ST185 GT-Four was the most powerful model in the range. It used the 3S-GTE engine, a turbocharged 2.0-liter, DOHC inline four with 222 BHP and 225 lb-ft of torque - one of the most powerful two-liter engines of its day. The chassis was equipped with a totally redesigned four-wheel independent strut suspension and a Torsen limited slip rear differential. The wide-bodied GT-Four A was added to the lineup in August, 1990. In September 1991 came the most powerful model in the ST185 series, the GT-Four RC (Racing Conversion), designed for Group A rally homologation. It had a water-cooled intercooler, and a metal turbo replaced the ceramic one, helping it to achieve 232 horsepower. Only 5,000 units of this limited edition model were sold worldwide, of which 1,800 were sold in Japan. With this model, Celica would achieve overnight glory in the WRC.
