The FT-86 was the center of attention at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, but Toyota took the car one step further for the January 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon. The car they brought to the show was the FT-86 G Sports Concept.
The car is an evolution model of the FT-86, improving on its performance. A turbocharger was added to the 2.0-litre horizontally-opposed 4 cylinder engine, and the opening of the front spoiler was enlarged to handle the extra heat. A large intercooler is visible within. The massive GT-style wing mounted atop the trunk lid improves aerodynamic performance, and the front hood has added ventilation ducts.
The turbo utilizes technology from Subaru, and combined with the lightweight body of the FT-86, the power performance of the car is superb.
The development concept for this car was "slide control on circuits" so they were not only concerned with increasing speed, but worked to tune the high power for establishing a high level of slide control in corners.
The G Sports abbreviated G's, is a series of cars in which the flavour of a car gained through the activities of GAZOO Racing is provided to the user. Because of this, the FT-86 G Sports Concept is given a sports suspension kit that was tuned by the test driver of GAZOO racing. The 6-speed manual transmission is unchanged from the FT-86 Concept. On the inside the front seats are Recaro bucket seats, supporting the driver on the circuit. And the rear seats were not removed, keeping the 4 person passenger capacity, but it is equipped with a roll cage.
As a Premium car, the Toyota FT-86 G SPORTS Concept '10 can be purchased from the Dealerships for 500,000 Credits. It can also be awarded as a prize car for getting all gold in the B-Spec FR Challenge. It is a Level 9 car.
