In-game description[]

"This new WRC race car was created to carry the torch for Toyota's strong rallying tradition."

Toyota has continued to challenge the World Rally Championships throughout the years in order to further refine their sportscars. And the car they developed as the base vehicle for the new rally car to be introduced in 2021, is the GR Yaris.

At a glance this may appear to be a cute compact car, but in reality this is a fighting machine built to win the WRC. The 3 door body combining two TNGA GA-B and GA-C modules has been reinforced for rigidity wherever possible, while reducing weight and lowering center of gravity. The widened rear fenders are a tell-tale sign of its true potential, and the carbon roof which gradually descends towards the rear is a result of optimizing airflow when a rear wing is installed.

The engine powering the four-wheel drive RZ model is a G16E-GTS 1.6 liter 3 cylinder turbo. This is their latest power unit boasting the smallest size and lightest weight in its class, and produces 200 kW (268 BHP)/370 Nm. This is then matched to a 6 speed manual transmission. The drivetrain is also very interesting, with a newly developed electronically controlled coupling type center differential adjusting the forward to rear torque distribution. In addition, the 'RZ High Performance' model is equipped with Torsen LSDs for both the front and rear differentials, securing rock solid traction.

The special '1st Edition' model was announced together with the reveal of the GR Yaris in January 2020. This is a special limited edition model for only those who pre-ordered the car, autographed by the master driver 'Morizo'[1] and equipped with special forged aluminum wheels.

Brand Central (GT7)[]

This is a true 4WD sports car, developed by Toyota with the goal of competing in the World Rally Championship. Its power ranks among the top of the turbo 1.6-liter class at 268.2 HP, and its 4WD system was tuned for sports driving. The body is surprisingly sturdy, resulting in excellent handling on all types on all types of terrain. The specially designed 3-door body gives the car a distinctly competition-focused feel.

Café (GT7)[]

Chris[]

The GR Yaris is the first sports car in a long time that Toyota have developed entirely in-house. The carbon roof and rigid body were specifically designed for this car alone. The same goes for its engine and four wheel drive system. It was basically built from the ground up to compete in the World Rally Championships. Feels incredible to drive, doesn't it? Some cars that cost twice this don't have this level of performance. Yes, I think this is a car that will leave its mark.

Jeremy[]

The Yaris WRC is a car that totally dominated the World Rally Championships. It claimed the Manufacturers' title in 2018... and in 2019 it took the Drivers' title as well, with a record six wins. Sure enough, the GR Yaris was developed specifically with the goal of total domination of the WRC in mind. Initially, a competition car was developed for the WRC, with a commercial car planned for homologation. In any case, for a real motorsports fan, there aren't many cars on the road that are quite this exciting!

Kagurazaka[]

Look at the tires placed way out on the corners, and the cabin that narrows naturally towards the rear.[2] It's a winning combination, wouldn't you say? It has a marvelous sense of real agility, regardless of the height of the body. It's a type of appeal that is common with cars like the Honda CR-Z. Recent Toyotas' front designs have been tending towards the aggressive in recent years. In this case, they've taken that and run with it, for the kind of car a real revhead would appreciate. The appearance of the fascia isn't bad, but it's a bit of a shame it resembles an old Peugeot from afar. Still, the car has plenty of good features, so I'm hoping it will prove popular on the streets. I'd like to see a different model along the lines of the Renault R5 Turbo to appeal to a more mature driver.

Trivia[]

  • To commemorate its launch in GT Sport, two special events were held: a Time Trial event on Sardegna - Windmills II [4] and a Scapes photo competition with a PlayStation 5 as the top prize.[5] Both events lasted until December 13th, 2020.
  • If the prompt to remove a "default" livery is answered when in the Livery Editor, the Morizo signature in the front windshield (located in the bottom right area, when viewed from front) will be removed.
  • It is the fourth launch edition of a car to be included in the series, the others being the SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition '13, the Alfa Romeo 4C Launch Edition '14, and the Alpine A110 Première Édition '17.
  • During the 2021 Olympic Virtual Series grand finals broadcast, the JBL logo in the head unit is blurred out, pursuant to IOC's third-party/commercial branding policy. Unlike the 86 Gr.4 and GR Supra Racing Concept, which required duplicate versions of themselves to allow third-party logos to be edited out of the cars, the GR Yaris does not have a OVS-specific version within the game's data; additionally, during the broadcast, the JBL logo can be seen unblurred in some instances.

Notes[]

  1. "Morizo" is an alias for Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda
  2. Typo in-game where part of the sentence reads as "narrows naturally narrowed" instead of "narrows naturally".
  3. The car received featured a country-specific livery, based on the country of the user's PSN account. For countries that never qualified for the FIA Gran Turismo Nations Cup prior to 2022, a generic gray livery with the same pattern is received instead.
