In-game description[]

"The Toyota Land Cruiser is one of the longest-running and most respected vehicles in the world. Its story began more than 70 years ago, in 1951. The FJ40 series arrived in 1960, marking he model's third generation. It was offered in a variety of body styles, each designed for a specific purpose. The 2-door hardtop, seen here, was built to conquer the harshest off-road conditions. Although compact at just 3.9 m in length, it was powered by a stout 3.9-liter gasoline engine. Its rugged 4WD system with a 2-speed transfer case made it indispensable on mountain trails. With its distinctive charm, the FJ40 became an enduring favorite and stayed in production for 24 years, until 1984. In 2021, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing began producing reproduction parts for the model. Why? Because a legendary off-roader like this was simply too good to let fade away."

Car Index[]

The Toyota Land Cruiser was first conceived as a vehicle for Japan's National Police Reserve, but it evolved into a world-class off-roader renowned for its all-terrain ability and legendary reliability. More than 70 years later, the model that continued to hold a special place in the hearts of enthusiasts was the third-generation "40," introduced in 1960.

Exports had begun earlier with the "20" series in 1955, establishing the Land Cruiser as a serious contender on the world stage. The "40" was designed to better meet the expectations of international customers. Beyond its updated exterior, it enhanced the already celebrated off-road capability with improved comfort for highway use, broadening its appeal. The 40 series was available in short, medium, and long-wheelbase versions, each tailored to different needs. The 2-door hardtop variant, seen here, found extensive use in mountainous regions, where its short 90.0 inches wheelbase proved invaluable.

Compact in size. it measured 152.4 inches in length, 66.5 inches in width, and 76.0 inches in height. Originally equipped with a 3.9-liter "F" gasoline engine, the lineup gained even more popularity in 1974 with the addition of the 3.0-liter "B" diesel engine. Its part-time 4-wheel-drive system with a 2-speed transfer case only reinforced its reputation for toughness. This was the model that embodied the Land Cruiser philosophy of "go anywhere and come back alive."

Alongside the 2-door hardtop, the 40 series as a whole became one of the Land Cruiser's greatest successes, remaining in production for 24 years, until 1984. Its enduring popularity inspired the launch of the FJ Cruiser in 2006, a modern homage that revived many of the classic 40's design cues.

And in 2021, Toyota announced the reproduction of 40-series parts through GAZOO Racing, proving that this iconic Land Cruiser was, and always will be, worth keeping alive on the road.

Chris[]

The Toyota Land Cruiser is the car that effectively made Japanese off-road history. Released in 1960, this '40' is the third-generation model. It's affectionately known to fans in Japan as the 'Yonmura,' a nod to the Japanese pronunciation of its model number. A commercial vehicle built to transport goods in agriculture and farming, as well as first-responders in emergencies, it was designed to be used, first and foremost, as a 'working car.' From its ladder-frame chassis to its suspension, every part of this car was built to last, so to speak. Well-made and dependable, it carries all the trademarks of a great Land Cruiser. With an impressive production run of 24 years, this best-selling car made the Land Cruiser a household name all over the world.
