The Toyota MR2 is a line of two-seater sports cars produced by the Japanese car manufacturer Toyota from 1984 to 2007. Spanning three generations, the MR2 was sold as a coupe and t-top in its first two generations and a convertible in its third and final generation. It was Japan's first rear mid-engined production car.
The MR2 uses simple but effective design elements such as an inline-four engine, transversely mounted in front of the rear axle, four-wheel disc brakes, and fully independent coilover suspension on both axles. The name MR2 is an acronym for either "mid-ship run-about 2-seater" or "mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive, 2-seater". The vehicle sold in France and Belgium as the Toyota MR, while the third generation MR2 was sold as the Toyota MR-S in Japan, Toyota MR2 Spyder in United States and Australia and Toyota MR2 Roadster in Europe.
