In-game description[]
"A new genre of cars built in collaboration between Toyota and GM."
The Voltz released in August 2002, is the first car to be produced by a collaboration between Toyota and GM. To create a new genre of cars for a younger generation, its planning and product design was performed in cooperation of the two, while mechanical design and testing was performed by Toyota, and production carried out by NUMMI, a joint company of Toyota and GM based in California. In North America, the car was sold by GM as the Pontiac Vibe.
The styling of the Voltz is very unique. The body is based on the Corolla, with a length of 171.8 inches, width of 69.8 inches, and height of 63.1 inches. It is wide and tall in relation to its length, making it about the size of a smaller mini-van.
The front fascia is aggressive, and the front and rear fenders and bottom sections of the body are given SUV-style plastic guard panels. It is equipped either 16- or 17-inch tires, and the car combines the stoutness of an SUV, the sportiness of a coupe, and the utility of a wagon.
The interior is simple, but the unique round quadruple meters and the center panel appeals to the younger generation. Because of the long 102.3 inches wheelbase, the interior is very roomy, and combined with the freely arrangeable seats, you can pack large cargo inside the car with ease.
The base components are also taken from the Corolla, and the engine is available in two types of 1.8L DOHC inline four cylinders, either a 187 BHP model with VVTL-i or a 130 BHP model with VVT-i. The mainstream gearbox is a 4-speed AT, but you could also choose a 6-speed MT with the 187 BHP version. The drivetrain is either FF or a V-flex full time four-wheel-drive.
The Voltz was an innovative crossover car, but its import into Japan ended in the spring of 2004, and NUMMI that manufactured them was dissolved. It was an unfortunate demise for a very well made Japanese-American collaboration car.
