The Toyota WEDSSPORT CELICA '03 is a race car produced by Toyota. A very light and agile car, this GT300 Celica boasts a 300-hp version of Toyota's 3S-GTE engine, which was detuned from 500 BHP, previously used in the GT500 Supras.

The car appears to be the #19, driven by Takayuki Aoki and Minoru Tanaka, who achieved a 4th place finish in the GT300 class of the 2003 JGTC season.

This GT300 class car produced by Toyota appears in Gran Turismo 4, Gran Turismo PSP, Gran Turismo 5, and Gran Turismo 6.

In-game description[]

Revisions to the Japan Grand Touring Car Championships (JGTC) regulations in 2003 allowed more freedom for race teams in choosing an engine and transmission, as well as choosing engine orientation and drive layout. Taking advantage of these changes was Racing Project Bandoh chief Masaaki Bandoh. When Toyota discarded its engine and transmission of the GT500 Supra in lieu of the regulation changes, Bandoh realized that the old engine and drivetrain from the Supra could be fitted into the[1] FR-converted Celica, thus creating the ideal GT300 car. The car came to be known as the Weds Sport Celica.

Because the engine bay of the Celica was designed to accommodate a transverse engine, Bandoh's concept was not simple to implement. In the end, the entire engine bay was rebuilt, with the turbocharged 3S-GTE inline-4 mounted as low as possible. The suspension was converted to double wishbone at all four corners, as Supra components were interfaced with the Celica's body.

This Celica performed poorly in its first outing, at the Sportsland Sugo track, but easily took the class pole at the next race. To follow up that performance, it won the pole in the next round and then took the checker flag at the race. The Celica was praised for its handling which was said to be actually better than the GT500's.
