Description[]

The 600cc class of motorcycles is familiar to enthusiasts in Europe and North America as the main category of midrange displacement bikes. This class boasts many lightweight, compact, high-output sports models, and each and every manufacturer works diligently to improve the performance of its bikes to secure a share of this keenly competitive market.

Triumph Motorcycles of the UK made its entry into this field in 2000 with the TT600. However, that machine displayed more of a sport-touring flavour and couldn't keep up with its rivals and their racing look, so Triumph introduced the Daytona 600 in 2003. Basing it on the TT600, Triumph's engineers went for less weight and more power overall, creating a brand new weapon with its completely revised styling. The Daytona 600 left the Japanese supersport bikes in its dust while winning the 2003 Isle of Man TT.

In 2005 came the debut of the Daytona 650, with an increased displacement through a lengthened stroke and greatly improved rideability due to that larger displacement. This bike easily maintains a level pace at lower revs—even around 1,500 to 2,000 r.p.m.—to an even better degree than rival supersport models from Japan.

The racing-modified Daytona 650 went from a standard to an inverted front fork, received a high-performance rear suspension with a wider setting range, and was fitted with radial-mounted racing calipers on the front brakes. The engine employs new camshafts for improved high-end output. The engine control unit and the muffler were replaced, as well. The Daytona 650 demonstrates a potential equal to that of Japanese production supersports 600 cc motorcycles.
