- "The Vision Gran Turismo project started with a single question from Gran Turismo founder Kazunori Yamauchi: โWould you design your rendition of the ideal GT for us?โ GT stands for Gran Turismo or Grand Tourer (where the game got its name from), which describes a sporty performance coupe. Many manufacturers accepted our offer, and now there are many โidealโ Grand Touring cars represented in the game. Vision Gran Turismo, which began as project to celebrate the gameโs 15th anniversary, continues to bring together the automotive passions of you, the user, and the car companies. The cars have been introduced one at a time throughout the Gran Turismo series, and the project will only increase in popularity as more and more people sample these unique machines."

Vision Gran Turismo is a 15th Anniversary project led by Kazunori Yamauchi, involving the world's automakers to design their rendition and concept of a "Gran Turismo" (a Grand Tourer/2-door sportscar).
The project has since evolved to be a long-term project spanning across multiple games, from its inception in Gran Turismo 6 and later on in Gran Turismo Sport and Gran Turismo 7.

Trivia[]
- The project's name was originally taken from an E3 2005 trailer, being an early teaser for Gran Turismo HD Concept.
- The process for getting a fully-completed Vision GT car for the games are currently unknown; it is likely that the manufacturers send the finalized CAD data so that Polyphony Digital will have to work on these models to be added in-game.
- The idea of creating an original concept car for the series exists even before Vision GT was born; notably being the Nike ONE 2022 featured in Gran Turismo 4.
- The HYUNDAI N 2025 first appeared in a special build of Gran Turismo 6 at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
- A similar case is also for the NISSAN CONCEPT 2020, also appearing in a special build of GT6 at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, showcasing the Gran Turismo Sport variant.
- The GTI Roadster, the Bugatti, the Audi e-tron and the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta are the only cars to have functional life-size mockups. Other VGT's that spawned real-life mock-up models were only static, show-only cars.
- Furthermore, the Bugatti is the first and only Vision Gran Turismo car to have been sold, albeit privately, as a one-off model.
- The Audi e-tron is also the first and only Vision GT to have been driven around a track, as a race taxi across several Formula E venues, and used as an experimental track-day car only within the confines of Audi themselves. It was also notable for having been driven by celebrities such as Tim "Shmee150" Burton and the late Ken Block.
- The Genesis X Gran Berlinetta in real life, however, uses an unspecified V8 engine as opposed to the twincharged V6 hybrid powerplant featured in the game.
- Both the Fittipaldi EF7 and the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo LH Edition are the only cars to not return to Gran Turismo 7.
- The Porsche Vision Gran Turismo is the first (and currently only) Vision Gran Turismo car to be on a cover, as seen on the cover of GT7.
- Though Volvo never officially joined the project, one designer shared photos of a Vision Gran Turismo study. Information regarding the vehicle is not indicative whether it is still in the planning stage or coming at all.[16]
- The INFINITI CONCEPT is the first Vision GT car to make an appearance outside of Gran Turismo, being added to Asphalt 8: Airborne as part of a Holiday Update (released in December 2018).
- The SUZUKI Vision Gran Turismo is the only Vision Gran Turismo car to use a custom livery in at least one event in the PS4/PS5 era games. In this case, it is driven by M. Blanco in the Clubman Cup Plus event at Watkins Glen Long Course.
