The Volkswagen GTI Vision Gran Turismo Gr.3 is a race car produced by Volkswagen, based on the Volkswagen GTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo. It appears in Gran Turismo Sport and Gran Turismo 7.

In-Game Description[]

"This Vision Gran Turismo Gr.3 original was based on the GTI Roadster. The front splitter and rear wing work in concert to dramatically increase the vehicle's downforce. This version utilizes an MR drive layout instead of the base model's 4WD.[1]"
―In-game description of the car, from GT7's Brand Central

The car's description is slightly altered from the base Volkswagen GTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo, stating at the bottom that it is specially tuned for Gr.3 regulations by Gran Turismo.

Trivia[]

VW Roadster VGT illustration

The official illustration of the base car, which features a front engine layout, contrary to the Gr.3's version being listed as MR.

  • The car's MR listing is incorrect, as an official illustration of the regular model confirms the car's engine location being located in the front, and therefore should be listed as FR (front engine, rear wheel drive) to remain within Gr.3's rear-wheel drive requirement. In addition, there is no room for the engine within the middle-to-rear end of the car and the hood has air vents in it.
  • Unusually for a Gr.3 car, the car has an open cockpit; this was due to the base car being Volkswagen's only choice for their Gr.3 car in the early stages of Gran Turismo Sport's development before the Beetle Gr.3 was finished later. Because of this design layout, the passenger seat has been deleted in order to make it a single-seater GT racing roadster.
  • In GT7, creating a new livery for the car will permanently remove the tire sticker, as tire stickers for the car cannot be changed (except for mandatory Michelin tire stickers for FIAGTC/GTWS races). However, liveries imported from GT Sport retain their tire decals, also permanently because of the inability to change the tire sticker.
  • This is one of the few Gr.3 cars to have 7 gears instead of 6, the others being the Volkswagen Beetle Gr.3, the GT by Citroën Race Car Gr.3, and the Suzuki Vision Gran Turismo (Gr.3 Version).
