The Volkswagen ID. R '19 is an electric race car produced by Volkswagen. It first appears in Gran Turismo 7 as part of Update 1.23.

The version that appears in the game appears to be based on the Nürburgring Nordschleife time attack specification model.

In-game description[]

"The prototype EV that rewrote speed records around the world."

As the threat of global climate change looms ever closer, automotive manufacturers are pushing forward with electrification to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Volkswagen was one of the first companies to take up the challenge. The company introduced its ID brand in 2020, which included a radical performance machine that showed the awesome performance potential of electric vehicles. This car was the ID.R prototype race car.

The ID.R's body was constructed of carbon-fiber, with oversized wings placed on the front and rear to produce maximum downforce. At 5.2 m long, the car was relatively large, but weighed less than 2425 lbs. The dual-motor 4WD system produced 500 kW (670.6 HP) / 650 Nm (479.5 ft-lb), allowing for a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 2.25s. These performance statistics rivaled those of race cars with internal combustion engines.

In the real world, the ID.R competed in numerous motorsports events around the world and produced amazing results. At the 2018 Pikes Peak Hill Climb, driver Romain Dumas set a record of 7 minutes 57 seconds, the first ever run to break the 8-minute barrier. At the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the ID.R set the record for fastest lap by an EV at 6 minutes 5 seconds. At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the car became the first to ever finish the legendary hill in less than 40 seconds with a record of 39.9s.

Since the birth of the automobile, people have been enamored with the pursuit of speed. The ID.R is proof that even in the age of electrification, this fascination lives on.

Brand Central (GT7)[]

Volkswagen's ID. series of battery electric cars, put out its first production model in 2020. This ID.R had a symbolic role to play in the launching of the new brand. An all-electric racer, it is fitted with two electric motors in the front and back, capable of outputting 670.6 BHP. This 4WD-system efficiently transfers tremendous power from the wheels to the road. A competitor in global time trial events since 2018, the[1] ID.R has set several world records. It was the first car to break the so-called 'eight-minute barrier' at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb... The world's premier hill climbing event, held annually in Colorado, USA. At the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany, it beat the previous record set by an electric car by 60 seconds. And it was the first car to finish under 40 seconds at the legendary Goodwood Festival of Speed in England!
