In-game Description[]

This description is taken from the PAL version of Gran Turismo 2:

Don't laugh. The Volkswagen Lupo might be tiny but it thinks it can mix it with far more grown-up cars. Praised at launch in 1998 for its impressive build quality, sporty interior, and settled road manners, the little Lupo comes in a range of variants including two diesels plus the entry-level 1.0E and the perkier 1.4E. All borrow their underpinnings from the larger Polo. Therefore suspension is a simple set of MacPherson struts up front plus a torsion beam axle with trailing arms at the rear. Handling has the bias on comfort rather than laugh-a-minute entertainment, the 1.4E at least stiffening things up a little with the addition of a front anti-roll bar. In standard specification Lupo drivers get no steering assistance or anti-lock system for the brakes, although these are both available as optional extras. Brakes are discs with drums at the rear. Grip, though not much of it - is laid on by skinny 155/70 tyres on titchy 13-inch wheels on the 1.0E, the 1.4E boasting beefier 175/65 tyres. The words "monstrous" and "mind-blowing" could hardly be applied to the Lupo's petrol powerplants, the 1.0E's one-litre, four-cylinder engine squirting out just 50bhp at 5,000rpm. A capacity increase to 1.4-litres plus the benefit of a 16-valve cylinder head gives the 1.4E a healthier 75bhp at 5,000 rpm. Gearbox choices are a five-speed manual or, optional on the 1.4E only, a four-speed automatic. A Lupo would be lost at a dragstrip too, the 1.0E accelerating 0-62mph in a (set the alarm clock for when we get there) time of 17.9 seconds with a 93mph top speed. The 1.4E manages the same in a far swifter 12 seconds and 105mph flat out. The Lupo's appeal lies with its affordability, cheeky looks and easy to live with personality. Just don't expect outright excitement, because you won't get it.
