The World Rally Championship (WRC) is the highest level of global competition in the motorsport discipline of rallying, governed and organized by the FIA. Established in 1973, succeeding from the International Championship for Manufacturers (IMC), the series currently consists of several, two to three-day events driven on surfaces ranging from gravel and tarmac to snow and ice. Each rally is usually split into 15–25 special stages which are run against the clock on closed roads.

Four officially licensed, works WRC cars from the 2008 season appeared in Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 6 (in the latter's day one patch), as well as accompanying driver suits, initially part of GT5's Racing Gear Pack. Other rally cars that have competed in WRC (prior to 2003 season) have also appeared in the series, but they are licensed directly from each manufacturer on car-by-car basis.

Trivia[]

  • All four WRC-licensed cars feature exclusive damage behavior to them in GT5, where doors could be removed as the car suffers enough body damage; doing so for the first time awards the player with the Watch Out for Falling Objects trophy. This behavior was removed in GT6, however.
