Strategy[]
The opponents drive Gr.3 cars. Anyone who is looking for an easy win can use a Gr.2 or a Gr.1 car, although detuning is necessary for both. GT1 cars such as the BMW McLaren F1 GTR Race Car '97 and the Mercedes-Benz CLK-LM '98 are viable choices though they can only be raced with Racing Hard tyres or Racing Medium tyres. The Suzuki V6 ESCUDO Pikes Peak Special '98, with its 981 HP, 800 kg/1764 lbs in weight and very high downforce that seems to defy its settings, can also be used to secure an easy victory. However, its nimble and peaky nature can be difficult to tame, and its fuel consumption is slightly higher than an average Gr.3 race car, which may force the player to play around with the fuel map to get a longer mileage before pitting. Using a road car is not recommended, as they burn through fuel quicker than race cars, except if equipped with a racing engine swap. Plus, electric vehicles are not ideal choices since they don't last very long after only a lap - with the exception of a detuned Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo. Players with fuel mapping can sometimes lead to faster times on any of these races, but depending on the car the player is using, it's safer to pit than just go to the end since fuel wear can range between 4x-9x depending on the race.
Of the 16 races, the Autopolis, High Speed Ring, Nürburgring, Tokyo, Spa, Suzuka, and Fuji races feature wet conditions that can appear at random, with the Fuji race a guaranteed wet race at the start; therefore, Intermediates and Heavy Wets is a must-have along with using the weather radar to know when to pit.
Penalties are enabled for the Sardegna, Watkins Glen, Spa, Tokyo, Nürburgring, Autopolis, High Speed Ring, and Sainte-Croix races, which means great care must be taken to not exceed the track limits, especially in the wet, as mistakes that can lead to penalties in the wet will result in additional consequences when serving said penalty; in some cases, Spa-Francorchamps being the most concerning race. Furthermore, the player has to enter and exit the pit correctly when doing the aforementioned races too.
Trivia[]
- For the races at Sardegna and Spa, it is not possible to lose the Clean Race Bonus, except by passing an AI car during a yellow flag.
- As of version 1.26, the player can lose the Clean Race Bonus due to the slightest bump to a rival car or a barrier.
- Prior to the Spec II v1.40 update, this was the only World Touring Car series to not have a championship with the same name, although the World GT Series Championship effectively serves as one due to the PP limit and opponent car choice.
- Because of nitrous prohibition on the "money-making" races at Sardegna and Spa, none of the Super Formula cars can be used, as their push-to-pass system is treated as a non-removeable nitrous.
- At 16 races, it is currently the event with the most races in GT7.
- Monza and La Sarthe originally had just 5,000 credits for a race win before v1.07 came out. Furthermore, the other retail races originally had 70,000 credits for a race win prior to v1.11.
- As a result of physics changes in version 1.49, the two "money-making" races had their tire wear adjusted:
- The Sardegna race's tire wear was reduced from 12x to 8x.
- The Spa race's tire wear was reduced from 8x to 4x.
