Description[]

The FJR1300 appeared in 2001 as a model that united the power and performance of a supersports motorcycle with the comfort of a touring bike.

The creative new design of the liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, dual overhead cam, 4-valve, 4-cylinder, 1298cc engine mounted on an aluminium die-cast diamond frame is fully equipped with such high-tech parts as lightweight pistons for the ceramic-coated cylinders, a dual-shaft balancer, and an accurately-balanced, low-vibration crankshaft. The drive system targets cleanliness and maintenance-free operation in the design of the drive shaft.

The suspension is equipped with a 48mm diameter front fork and a remote-controlled preload adjuster for the rear. From 2003, the FJR1300 was set up with an electrically adjustable windscreen and larger brake discs. The front turn indicators were mounted onto the fairing, and the sense of quality of each part was improved through new painting schemes such as changing the Yamaha logo on the fuel tank to the tuning fork emblem. A "1300A" model with ABS was added to the lineup at the same time.

The upright, generous riding position transmits this bike's first impression. Due to the dual balance shafts, the FJR1300 starts off with what appears to be a smooth running character, but open the throttle wide and the engine revs rise to the high-speed range with surprising swiftness. The design of the initial model possessed features that aimed at sharp handling—even in a speed range exceeding 120 mph—and this enables instant lane changing to your heart's desire. However, after 2003, that nature was revised towards calmer handling with a focus on improved balance.

Relaxing and without any quirks, this bike will accurately follow the course you aim for when entering winding curves at considerable speed. The cornering clearance is somewhat minimal, but appropriate for imposing self-control over too high a speed caused by excessive leaning. Also deserving of high marks is the natural touch of the braking kickback when ABS is activated on ABS-equipped models.
