Description[]

The Grand Majesty 250 from Yamaha is the successor to the Majesty, a top-selling model in the 250cc scooter class. One of the Grand Majesty's charms is its markedly higher than average body rigidity, brought by utilising the same aluminium CF die-cast frame that's in the simultaneously developed Grand Majesty 400. Stiff 41mm fork tubes are used in the front, with dual coil-over spring/shock units in the rear. Combined with 14-inch front and 13-inch rear wheels, the Grand Majesty offers high-speed traction and stability that exceeds anything possible with conventional unit swing systems.

The seat is split front and rear, a carryover from the Majesty. The unitised backrest for the front seat can be adjusted back and forth to 5 positions. Over 3,600 cubic inches (2 cubic feet) of storage capacity is secured under the seat, enough for two large helmets to be stored easily. The combination of electronically controlled fuel injection and a newly designed liquid-cooled, dual-overhead-cam, 4-valve, single-cylinder, 249cc engine did more than improve power over the previous model. The cooling capability was also improved, while the DiASiI cylinders—excellent in their wear and abrasion resistance—provide a high level of reliability as well.

Because this bike is larger than the Majesty, you'll feel its weight during any slight revving at a stop. But, once you get moving, the enhanced engine response will also deliver smooth power, and it gains speed quite well. Designed for minimal engine vibration, the effect of the outstanding chassis stiffness can actually be felt more the faster you go, and the delicate action of the front and rear suspension is much more obvious at that point as well. Through this, the Grand Majesty offers a particularly high sense of security at high speeds, even when riding with a passenger.

The excellent handling of the Majesty was partially the result of its 12-inch wheels both front and rear, and it boasted a response that was indeed quick and stable. But the Grand Majesty offers us a taste of that same manoeuvrability with an even greater sense of safety thanks to its increased rigidity. And this difference in performance is even more noticeable the worse the running conditions get, such as on rough or slippery roads.
