Description[]

The year 2003 marked the 25th anniversary of the debut of the Yamaha SR400. With an air-cooled, 4-stroke, overhead-cam, single-cylinder engine and classic cafe-racer styling, albeit sans fairing, this bike still enjoys high popularity within the medium-displacement class of motorbikes in Japan. And over the years, the SR has continued to evolve. Though it's been a gradual process, such details as the power, durability, engine characteristics, and overall manoeuvrability have continually improved, and the resulting high level of perfection explains the bike's consistently high sales.

This particular SR400 has racing modifications on top of that solid technology. The appropriate use of modern parts has achieved top-flight sports performance that superbly matches the classical style of the SR.

The front and rear suspensions are standard units with strengthened inner parts. Stopping power is boosted with a change to lightweight wheels—and a 4-pot caliper installed in the front, with an enlarged disc to match.

A high-rev camshaft was installed in the engine. Intake and exhaust efficiency was improved with the installation of larger valves, a cylinder head with large fins for better cooling characteristics, a velocity stack on the carburettor, and an upgraded muffler.

Finally, the classic cafe racer riding position is achieved with a custom single seat and clip-on handlebars.
