The appearance of the TZR250 instantly ignited the market for two-stroke bikes in Japan. The Honda NS250R, the Suzuki RG250 Gamma, the Kawasaki KR250, and other rival two-stroke replicas soon appeared, accelerating the performance competition to a feverish pitch. Yamaha released their RZ development models—the RZ250R and RZ250RR—and, in 1985, released the TZR250, equipped with 17-inch wheels front and back, a full fairing, and a new style of engine with the YPVS exhaust device. If we take into consideration that the same years TZ250 production racer offered a layout of 17-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels on a steel-tube frame, its clear that this was indeed an epoch-making model.

Description[]

This bike adds modern F3 kit parts to a TZR250 with racing-spec modifications.

Yamaha elected to grind the ports and polish the heads on the standard engine, and then rejet the carburettors to fit the F3 racing chambers. They also employed stronger parts including the clutch springs from the F3 kit.

Standard suspension components were installed, but with changes and improvements made to their inner parts. And, as a result, this TZR250 demonstrates sufficient potential to handle the improved engine performance.
