Description[]
Yamaha's VMAX is a production bike with the aura of a drag racer embodied in the exciting power of its 1,198-cc, liquid-cooled, dual-overhead-cam, 4-valve V4 engine with shaft drive and "V-boost" induction. With truly appealing styling and performance, and with a number of minor changes made over the years, the VMAX has enjoyed continued popularity—only the Japanese-spec version has been discontinued—in the two decades since its debut.
This VMAX has racing modifications designed to improve the cornering characteristics of the standard VMAX.
The main improvements are in its suspension. The front wheel has reduced from 18 inches to 17 and the rear conversely enlarged from 16 to 18. The stock fork was replaced with an inverted type with racing specifications, and specially developed triple clamps have also been included. The targeted improvement in cornering has been achieved by changing the front and rear suspensions.
Frame stiffness has been increased in order to handle the intense acceleration and deceleration speeds and cornering G's of the VMAX. An oil cooler was added as well to handle the increase in engine heat due to regular operation in the high-rev range.
