Description[]
The XJR1300 boasts the worlds largest displacement for a mass-production motorcycle with an air-cooled, inline 4-cylinder engine. The dual overhead cam, 4-valve engine that was borrowed from the FJR1200 employs such advanced technology as sleeveless electroplated alloy cylinders, forged pistons, and carburised connecting rods for improved reliability.
Revisions in 2003 added lightweight wheels from the FZS1000, a fully adjustable 43-mm-diameter front fork, and Ohlins rear suspension for heightened sportiness. Even just with these minor modifications, that XJR1300 demonstrated high performance racing on the track.
At a glance, this machine looks like the changes ended with just a muffler replacement and a number plate, but in reality the intake airflow has also been improved through a conversion to European-specification manifold. The further switch to a titanium 4-into-1 exhaust and a change in carburettor settings have improved efficiency, and bring the engine a 14% rise in power to 114 hp at 8000 r.p.m. The torque at mid to low speeds is greatly improved as well.
The adoption of the titanium exhaust system and the removal of turn signals and other street-required parts has lightened the weight to under 440 Ibs, something that has improved[1] the effect of the fully-adjustable, wide-range front and rear suspensions. Even when running at circuit racing speeds, these settings are implemented to firmly reflect the XJR1300's torquey air-cooled, inline four-cylinder engine.
