Description[]

Yoshimura entered its GSX 1300R Hayabusa in the X Formula class of the All Japan Championship in 1999. Yoshimura had already released various parts for the Hayabusa, but many fans were hoping for a complete machine. Yoshimura responded in 2000 by releasing 100 limited-edition X-1 replicas.

Although it was customised under the standard Yoshimura philosophy, this X-1 wasn't a radical machine, and even featured cost considerations. Tuned throughly, and employing ST-1 cams and high-compression pistons, and polished ports and valves, it was hard for users to get their hands on a new engine after purchase, while the suspension was conversely made as standard as possible and was easily replaceable.

The swing arm, suspension kit, and brakes were stock, but in no way deficient. The inner parts of the fork were revamped and their settings optimised. Weight was reduced by over 60 lbs. through a special rear frame and solo seat, an aluminium fuel tank, the titanium-carbon fibre exhaust, fibre-reinforced plastic exterior parts, and more. The vertical twin headlights were moved to a side-by-side configuration to highlight the sportiness of the X-1 with a countenance quite different from the stock bike.

The riding position is extended over the slightly lowered front of the bike. Once you plant your feet on the adjustable foot pegs that have been moved up and back, you'll feel like you're on the racing circuit. And the X-1 is surprisingly light and racy as well.

The engine's speciality is from 6,000 r.p.m. on up. Peak accelerating force is reached between 8,000 and 9,000 r.p.m. Power peaks at a massive 193 hp at 9800 r.p.m., although this is not an uncontrollable level of power by any means. Enter corners right on the line you choose, without any feeling of stress in the tyres. Lean over out and place the load towards the back, and the rear tyre quickly takes the turn.

Perfectly matching unusually high performance with an everyday rideability in this way is the ultimate charm of the X-1.
